St. Vincent de Paul Preschool offers a play-based, hands-on program because we believe young children learn best through interaction, exploration, and experimentation. Low student-to-teacher ratios allow our teachers to individualize learning to meet children where they are developmentally. Encompassing all the learning at our preschool is our Catholic faith which is integrated into every aspect of our day to help children grow in their love and knowledge of God.
As the children play and interact, we focus on developing many skills through our curriculum, including:
Spiritual Growth- We instill our faith through daily prayer, bible stories and songs, chapel lessons and the celebration of saints and holy days.
Social and Emotional Growth - Sharing toys, games, and physical space, as well as learning group rules, affords each youngster the opportunity to test and establish appropriate social and emotional behavior.
Cognitive Growth - Keeping in mind that children are preparing for kindergarten, we provide opportunities to develop skills such as problem solving, classifying and observation through games, puzzles, science experiments, group activities and other early reading, math and writing activities.
Speech and Language Development - Through listening to books, learning finger plays and songs, and role-playing and dress-up experiences, the children's vocabulary and language skills are broadened and enhanced.
Gross Motor Skills - Children are given opportunities to develop coordination and muscle strength through climbing, running, skipping, dancing, balancing and other movement activities.
Fine Motor Skills - While playing with manipulatives, cutting, coloring, and writing, children’s hand muscles and coordination skills are strengthened.
Creative Development - The building blocks, playdough, paints, and art materials within the classroom to challenge children to use their imagination and endless creative abilities.
