Ecumenism Commission

Contact: Fr. Mark S. Lawlor mslawlor@charlottediocese.org

This ministry seeks to build bridges of understanding, mutual respect and charity among the Christian believers in Charlotte. We promote an understanding of Ecumenism within the parish by promoting dialogue between competent experts from different churches to explain the distinct teachings of each communion in greater depth. This is accomplished by arranging presentations by guest speakers to educate the congregation on other faith traditions during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (January 18-25).  We also promote participation in common prayer and activities among Christian believers in our local community. This includes encouraging participation in the annual Community Thanksgiving Service (which our parish hosts on a rotational basis) and other events supported by the Park-Sharon Association of Churches.

Women's Guild

This group is involved in several areas of the parish and is represented by a board of six members who are elected each May. Primarily, the group is responsible for the altar, replacing items used in the celebration of the Mass (including altar cloths, candles, vestments, chalices) and, from time to time, providing flowers.

Each September, the Women's Guild holds a Welcome Tea to enable new and existing members of the parish to get together and to present the program for the year. The Welcome Tea also allows smaller groups called Circles to introduce themselves. These circles hold monthly meetings, undertake special projects, and offer fellowship. New members are always welcome.

Meeting Times: Usually four main meetings are held at three-month intervals, and can be anything from fashion shows to card parties. The group also has a special evening when someone from one of the diocesan support agencies comes to talk about his or her work.
